In India for the last decade or so, it has been observed that salaries in some of the fields have accelerated manifolded. Scenarios, like salary hike in the range of 15-50% is not unheard in the IT industry for instance.
The professionals have started believing that the hikes are justified with the required amounts of skills, working hours, thought process, and work pressure. And the scenarios will, and most importantly should, continue for ever. And they feel annoyed in case a salary hike is not at par with their previous hikes, or their peer’s hikes. They are not even bothered to contemplate about the possibilities/reasons for the lower hikes, if at all, in the near future.
What, I believe, is missing from the perceived picture, is the fact that the pay in India are, and rising, so because the alien nationals still perceive us as cheap labors. I, frankly, see only a few businesses growing at the compounded rate of 15% year-on-year. And this makes me wonder how long these lucrative salary hikes could continue for most. What frightens me is the fact that the scenario may change drastically when we are not cheap anymore for them.
The book that I just finished reading is titled…”if you want to be rich & happy: Don’t go to school“
It was an interesting book, wherein the author, describes the shortcomings of the educational system. Throughout the book, he insisted for a non-bipartite educational system; Some student’s classified as being smarter, and others being labeled as weak. He asserted in the text that everyone is a genius and his inner strengths may/may not be aligned with what is demanded by the educational system.
The Author also encourages lifelong education in a fun filled manner.
I would recommend everyone to read this book. My recommendation would be even stronger, in case you are a parent, a student, or a teacher; which pretty much covers mostly all who can read
